How to start a personal finance blog to earn over $10,000/month?

Discover the best way to start your financial blog that makes $10,000/month in just 10 easy steps

These are the top 10 steps that are required when starting your financial blog

The finance niche is a very lucrative niche with many established websites and blogs, it is very competitive but if done well you can make a lot of money from it

So to start a financial blog you need to follow these 10 steps process to help you get started

When I got started blogging, neither did I have any tech skills but I followed these steps to get started

Decide on the finance niche you want to blog about

A niche is a specific topic which your blog is all about, the personal finance niche has got several sub-niches which you can choose to blog about

You can combine two or more of these sub-niches and as your audience grows, you can add more sub-niches

These are the best finance niches you can choose from

All the above sub-niches are good for affiliate marketing and ads so choosing any of the above, you will never regret

Focus on a single niche where you have skills in

From the above sub-niches, what are you good at, choosing one or combining two of the above sub-niches will help you get started

Factors to consider while choosing your niche

  • Passion

With passion, you need to create a blog about something you feel passionate about

Ask yourself, can you create good quality content without getting tired or burning out

Your passion is something you feel interested in and you can create content without feeling shy

  • Existence of an audience interested in that content

You should create content where there is an audience of people searching for that content

If you create content about keywords people are not searching, no one will land on your content, you will be creating content for the ghost town

How do you get to know what people are searching for?

There are keyword tools that will provide you with the keywords or questions people are typing into google

Examples of those keyword tools include SEMRush, ubersugest, answer the public etc

Create content with a search intent in mind, all your content should be geared towards answering people’s problems

So you need to know what problems does your audience have and create solutions for their problems

Examples of those problems include:

Creating content around those keywords will help solve their problems

This is what we call creating content with a search intent in mind

  • Opportunity for monetization

This is another question to ask yourself, is there an opportunity for monetizing your chosen niche

Are their people creating content around those niches? How is the competition? If you create content around something that no one blogs about means that that niche is not profitable

Choose a niche where there is not too much competition and target those keywords with low competition but the high search volume

Choose your domain name

A domain name is the name of your website, it is the one that uniquely identifies your website from others

Factors to consider while choosing your domain name

  • Brief
  • Precise
  • Show what your blog is about

While naming your site you need to make sure that your domain name is short, precise, and memorable

Examples of domain names include

Facebook.com

Google.com

Farewelltopoverty.com

Worldbloggersmagazine.com

Etc

You can name your website or blog any name you want as long as it fulfills any of the above

On the domain extension, I do highly recommend that you use the .com extension because most people search online using the .com, there are other domain extensions such as .net, , co .biz, .online, etc

Choose your web hosting provider

Web hosting refers to purchasing the server space on other people’s computers that are connected to the internet 24/7 where your website files will be kept

Web hosting allows your articles to be online and be accessed by people worldwide 24/7

There are many web hosting providers across the globe but many of them don’t provide all the basics you need

What factors should you consider while choosing a web host?

Consider the following before choosing a web host

  • Uptime
  • Customer support
  • Loading speed
  • Storage space
  • Band width

Uptime refers to the amount of time your website is online 24/7, choose a web host that will guarantee 99.9% uptime, most of the web hosting providers promise that but don’t fulfill this

All you need to know is that any second your site is offline, you are losing customers and readers

Loading speed refers to the time it takes for your blog or website to load, the more time it takes to load, the more people will leave without vising your website

Choose a web host that offers the best loading time for your website

Customer support, choose a web host that is easily accessible 24/7 in case you face any challenges, some web hosting providers don’t offer this support

Storage space

Storage space is the amount of space that is available to host your blog files such as articles, videos, and images

The best web hosting provider that I recommend is Bluehost because it meets all the above and offers you a free domain name for one year, 24/7 customer support

Choose a blogging platform

There are many blogging platforms outside there but you need to choose the one that is easily customizable and offering you the best features

For a personal financial blog, I do recommend that you use wordpress.org

WordPress.org is a free self-hosted content management system that offers an opportunity for nontech individuals to start their own websites

Though other content management systems exist they are not comparable to wordpress.org in terms of features and customization

Can you start blogging with a free content management system?

Yes it is possible but it comes with limitations such as

  • You cannot monetize your website
  • Limited storage space
  • No control over your site
  • No domain name

Your domain name will look like

Frank.blogspot.com on blogger

Frank.wix.com on wix

Frank.weebly.com on Weebly

Frank.WordPress,com

So you should run away from free blogging platforms because it comes with costs

Before I got started blogging I started many websites on free platforms but none of them was successful until I ran for a self-hosted wordpress.org

I do recommend that you choose wordpress.org not any other platform

Install theme

A theme offers you the outlook and appearance of your website, there are both free, freemium, and premium theme

At the start, I do recommend that you choose a free theme and when your site starts get traffic, you can move to a premium theme

I do recommend that you start with Astra theme which offers both free and premium plans

What should you consider while choosing a theme?

  • Mobile responsiveness

A theme should be responsive to both desktop and mobile versions of gadgets people are using to surf the net

  • Easy of customization

You should be able to modify the look of your website easily so that to meet your needs

Customize your blog

Now you have purchased web hosting and installed wordpress.org on your server

You need to customize your site and change the settings, permalinks so that you click on the post name

Create your most essential blog pages

Blog pages are the categories for your blog posts

The essential pages on your website include:

  • About page

The about page tells your audience what your website is all about, it gives more information about you and your company

A privacy policy informs your readers of the type of data you collect from them and the purpose for that data

  • Disclaimer

The disclaimer page helps you to disclose the relationship between you and the products you’re selling

Most laws recommend you disclose your relationship with the products you’re selling

In case you receive commissions, you need to disclose that to your audience

  • Services

This page tells your audience the most important services that your blog or your website offers, you need to tell your audience how you can help them via your services page

Create content

The backbone of all financial blogs in content as the saying goes that “content is king”

For people to come to your website you need plenty of high-quality content

What type of content should you create?

You should create content that is geared towards solving your readers’ problems

You need to know what problems your audience has and find solutions to their problems

Best content types in this niche include:

  • How to
  • Tutorials
  • Best of
  • Etc
  •

  • Share your content on social media

Social media is a great way to help you get started to bring traffic to your website, sharing your content on platform like facebook groups, pinterest or linkedin will help you get some traffic for the start

So you need to create a community of people who are interested in your content

How can you create this community?

  • Create a or join facebook group
